My honest opinion on Void Linux

This is my honest opinion on Void Linux. Last edited April 9th

Installation

The installation was a really easy part of Void. It was really easy to install since it had a text-based user interface. I installed the XFCE version though

Void Linux

In my opinion, Void Linux is a great Linux distro. It's very stable and it provides pretty good documentation.

Void has its own package manager called XBPS (X Binary Package System) and it's pretty fast.

I find Void really easy to configure, especially the XFCE version as it has the XFCE desktop env already installed, so all you gotta do is install some themes, fonts and icons.. and you have a perfect desktop environment!

I had a problem with the timezone though. But that's probably my fault (even if I set it to my city, it was in Madrid for some reason.)

Is it good for beginners?

By the way, I'm not an expert in Linux, so take my words with a grain of salt.

I personally think Void is not a good distro for beginners, because to configure it you need to know how to use the terminal. It has great and easy to understand docs though!

The distro I'd recommend for beginners is probably Pop!_OS or Linux Mint. I feel like they're really simple to use and you don't really need to know how to use the terminal to install/configure them.

My experience with Void Linux

I'm currently using Void as I'm writing this. So far I've had no problems with it (except the timezone bug) and it's been a really stable OS so far. It has support for a lot of apps I use too, like Revolt or Discord.

I think I can use Void as my daily driver, it's a really nice distro and I really enjoy it.
